MISHAWAKA, Ind. (November 10, 2023) – Senior1Care proudly announces that its Co-Founder and CEO Carl Bossung has been honored with the Recognition of Lifetime Achievement by the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Accounting Department. Presented at the IU Kelley Accounting Alumni and Friends Banquet on Thursday, November 2, this prestigious award recognizes Bossung’s outstanding contributions to the field of accounting and his decades of leadership in both business and the community.
“Carl is the personification of the IU Kelley culture,” stated Professor Joe Schroeder, Chair of the Graduate Accounting Programs, and PwC Faculty Fellow at the Kelley School of Business. “His career reflects that strong Hoosier work ethic, considerable ingenuity, and an entrepreneurial spirit that has led to a lifetime of achievements making his community better. He’s a true inspiration to us all!”
Forty years of Bossung’s career were spent as a certified public accountant (CPA) with Crowe, one of the nation’s leading public accounting firms. During this time he held significant roles within the company, including executive in charge of Crowe’s 500-person Financial Services Group, partner in charge of the South Bend office, and inaugural chairman of the firm’s Board of Directors.
Bossung left Crowe in 2008 at the age of 64 – but not to retire as many may have expected. Instead, he committed himself full-time to the organization he and his son, Kyle, founded in 2006 – Senior1Care. Headquartered in Mishawaka, Ind., with additional offices in Elkhart, Fort Wayne, and Carmel, Senior1Care is a leading home care agency specializing in non-medical services for seniors. Under Bossung’s leadership, Senior1Care has flourished, employing over 500 dedicated professionals. The company’s exceptional growth and commitment to quality care have garnered it recognition by Inc. Magazine, which honored Senior1Care as one of America’s fastest-growing privately owned companies for seven consecutive years.
Seeing a need in the community, and to meet staffing requirements of Senior1Care, Bossung helped launch Legacy CNA Training, LLC, in 2014. Legacy provides education to individuals wanting to become Certified Nurse Aides, Qualified Medication Aides, or Personal Care Attendants. Boasting the number one pass rate in the state, Legacy has trained over 5,000 Hoosiers in the South Bend, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne regions.
Of his father’s recognition, Kyle Bossung said, “This award reflects the values that have driven our family business from the beginning. I am immensely proud of my father’s achievements and his unwavering commitment to his professional endeavors. I’m truly honored to work alongside him as we continue to make a positive impact on the lives of seniors and their families.”
In addition to his impressive career accomplishments, Carl Bossung has actively participated on various boards and committees, including his present role on the board of the Medical Education Foundation, which advises the IU School of Medicine at The University of Notre Dame. He previously served as Board Chair of the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce, which recognized him with the W. Scott Miller Distinguished Business Leader Award in 2018.
Bossung’s educational background includes a B.S. degree in accounting from St. Joseph College, Ind., and an MBA from Indiana University Bloomington, where he honed his expertise in accounting and finance.
