Caregiver Spotlight: Dawn Moreno

At Senior1Care, we love celebrating caregivers who go above and beyond to support their clients with compassion. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Dawn, whose journey into caregiving has been driven by a deep passion for helping others.

Originally from South Bend, Dawn has dedicated more than 15 years to healthcare, working in various settings before finding her home at Senior1Care. What started as a part-time job quickly turned into a calling.

“I’ve always loved helping people,” Dawn shares. “When my uncle went into hospice, I became his caregiver, and that experience solidified my passion for home care. The elderly have so much wisdom to share, and I truly enjoy being there for them.”

Dawn’s kindness extends beyond her daily work. In her free time, she loves crocheting and often gifts her handmade scarves, hats, and even stuffed animals to her clients. “One of my clients loved my crocheted animals so much that I made her a little dog. Seeing the joy it brought her was incredibly rewarding.”

When asked what advice she would give to someone considering a career in caregiving, Dawn emphasizes the importance of heart: “You have to go into this work because you care about people, not just for a paycheck. I treat my clients like they’re my own family.”

Outside of work, Dawn is a proud mother of four grown children – two sons (33 and 25) and two daughters (30 and 28). She currently lives with her eldest daughter, a team lead at Target and mother of two. Her oldest son, a Marine veteran and electrical engineer, lives in California with his fiancée, while her youngest daughter is a stay-at-home mom raising four boys, and her youngest son works at Amazon alongside his girlfriend. During the day, Dawn cherishes time with her 2-year-old granddaughter and, of course, finds moments to crochet.

For Dawn, the most fulfilling part of caregiving is simply being present. “I hope my clients remember me as a friendly face, someone they can rely on. Sometimes, it’s not about talking – just being there makes all the difference.”

Her kindness isn’t just part of her job – it’s who she is. We are so grateful to have Dawn as part of the Senior1Care family and to celebrate the difference she makes every single day.
