Community Guidelines

Updated: July 28, 2023

  1. Be Kind and Respectful

Together, let’s build a positive, welcoming, supportive environment where everyone feels safe to connect with each other, share about their lives, and support one another. Let’s respect individual opinions, BE KIND, and report inappropriate posts, if needed.

  1. Be Relevant – We’re Here to Support Each Other

Always remember, the goal of this community is to provide a safe place for caregivers and patient advocates to connect, share, and support each other related to their lives. It’s not a place for discussion about politicians and political issues, unless perhaps there’s a bill related to caregiving, patient advocacy, or a healthcare related topic. In those instances, it’s ok to talk about those, BUT NOT turn it into slamming any politician, political party, or related organization. If in doubt, refer to Section #1 above and the first sentence of this Section #2.

  1. HIPAA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. My Care Friends will never ask for any HIPAA related information. Sharing any such information is done at your own risk. That said, also refer to #4 below.

  1. Do Not Share Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or Any Info Without Permission

Never share anything in a post that is not yours, without the expressed permission to you from the other individual or entity.

  1. No Solicitations

This includes self-promotion, unsolicited direct messages, spamming, links to offers (unless requested), posing as a My Care Friends employee, expert or partner, and any selling disguised as content or help posts with the purpose of lead generation. These types of posts will be removed when brought to our attention, to ensure we stay focused on supporting each other and having fun.

  1. Zero Tolerance for Harassment

You can respectfully discuss and propose diverging thoughts, but never directly attack a person. Any posts, comments, or direct messages to members of administrators that are inappropriate, rude, or aggressive will be immediately removed upon discovery. This includes posts that spread misinformation and are disruptive to the welcoming, safe, and kind site My Care Friends is intended to be. Any violation is cause for potential account deletion.

  1. Redux – Do Not Share Any HIPPA Personal Information – Yours or Anyone’s

In no way, shape, or form, will My Care Friends ever ask for PHI (Protected Health Information) – period! We ask that you seriously consider whether you share PHI of yours or anyone, and if so what PHI you share, anywhere on the My Care Friends website. There are federal regulations and safeguards to protect everyone, which you can read about by clicking here.

  1. Refer to Section #1 above!
